PPACA Ensures Affordable Illinois Medical Insurance

Affordable Illinois medical insurance is no longer a pipedream, hogwash or political malarkey. With the guidelines of the Patient Protection and Affordability Care Act (PPACA), Illinois medical insurance for people suffering from a chronic illness, is now an attainable reality. This month, the Illinois Department of Insurance has the daunting task of administering a new temporary high-risk pool program.

Individuals, diagnosed with a preexisting medical condition, fall under the classification of the “high risk pool.” In order to qualify for a temporary high risk pool Illinois medical insurance, individuals have to meet several prerequisites, including:

  • Valid proof of  citizenship
  • Not holding legitimate Illinois medical insurance policy within the last 6-momths
  • The medical diagnosis with a condition deemed to fall under the high risk pool

While the high risk pool program is temporary, Illinois is among 45 states whereby by health insurance companies discriminated medical coverage based on preexisting conditions. From now through 2014, the high risk pool programs will help transition implementation of the PPACA.

According to a market research study, from 2004 to 2007, 36 percent of non-elderly Americans, who applied for health insurance, were “discriminated for having a preexisting medical condition.

Although not all Illinoisans will participate in the high risk pool program, insiders speculate that Illinois medical insurance companies will be motivated to implement new programs for the target audience.
